Our fussy fellas open by reflecting on the Kentucky Derby and throwing their predictions Under The Bus, along with the broadcast coverage of the race and flopping favorite Fierceness. The grumpy GOATs riff on The Roast of Tom Brady and get in a couple digs of their own, and resident Swiftie Curry Kirkpatrick manages to work Tay-Tay into the conversation.
Our impassioned panel can't come to an agreement on whether the New York Knicks' Game 1 win over the Pacers was legitimate, with in-house NYC homer Rich Basirico grinning while Curry and Bob Stevens lambast the officiating down the stretch, but they reach a consensus that the challenge system sucks and agree Donte DiVincenzo should be up for a Tony for his late flop. Your favorite curmudgeonly commentators show love for the Minnesota Timberwolves, shouting out the Stifle Tower and the Ant Man, and wondering whether anyone can stop them.
Coach B blasts LeBron's hijacking of the Los Angeles Lakers' coaching situation (and Curry sneaks in a Duke dig, naturally), Curry buzzes about the bees in Arizona, and Rich rants about Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton's plate approach (again). Plenty of umpires and referees end up Under The Bus, including one who tried to retire to Coach B on the spot before a game, but no more than the speedbumps that come from the NBA's "two-minute report" that throws shade on the refs.
Come for the sports banter, stay for the Kristi Noem jokes on this week's edition of Under The Bus!

Horses Don’t Know What They Cos

Wednesday May 01, 2024

The grumpy GOATs are back to riff on the NFL Draft, the NBA Playoffs, and a little of this and a little of that. Former ESPN SportsCenter anchor Bob Stevens bags on the Browns for using their first-round pick on Deshaun Watson (again), Hall of Fame sportswriter Curry Kirkpatrick declares “LeBron’s over” and has some strong words for Philly fans, and legendary high school basketball coach Rich Basirico has a tip on the Kentucky Derby from Kenny and Jack, and you know you can trust them, whoever they are. Tune in for all that and more, and see who ends up Under The Bus!

“Coach Cal Calls The Hogs”

Thursday Apr 11, 2024

Thursday Apr 11, 2024

The college basketball season is in the rearview mirror, and two of our grumpy GOATs are glad they opted to watch from home in lieu of spending a fortune to watch “ a couple UConn scrimmages,” because it allowed them to keep a closer eye on the “real Final Four” and the victorious Cocks (lot of cock talk in this one). The women’s Final Four had everything — traveling, three seconds, even moving screens! Curry evokes the great Oscar Schmidt (look him up), Geno goes under the bus, and Calipari calls the hogs to get out of Lexington ahead of the posse. Plus, see who claimed the gold medal in our bracket contest, who everyone likes this week in Augusta, and whether Caitlin Clark can be called the GOAT without a ring, all on this week’s episode of Under The Bus!

Unleash The Dancing Bear

Thursday Apr 04, 2024

Thursday Apr 04, 2024

Our grumpy GOATs are beside themselves this week, marveling at what their younger selves would think about leading off with a love letter to women’s college basketball — razor eyelashes notwithstanding — and relating Iowa vs. LSU to “Beyonce vs. Taylor Swift in a shake-off” (Curry Kirkpatrick, of course), as well as making a speed bump out of the NCAA for slighting the women with janky three-point lines in Portland.
The men get their due, even if UConn’s dominance has curbed Curry’s enthusiasm for the Final Four somewhat, with cheers for N.C. State “Fatty Bear” DJ Burns Jr., jeers for Dookie Kyle Filipowski, and admiration for Alabama and Purdue.
Coach Rich Basirico’s favorite pastime of ragging on the Yankees might be on the back-burner with Juan Soto in the Bronx, but former ESPN SportsCenter anchor Bob Stevens pushes the rest of the league under the bus for not signing the Childish Bambino and laments the $973M being paid to MLB players who won’t play this season.
Plus, no one can remember who sang “Total Eclipse of the Heart.” All on this week’s episode of Under The Bus!

Danny Hurley’s Underwear

Thursday Mar 28, 2024

Thursday Mar 28, 2024

It’s the most wonderful time of year for the grumpy GOATs of Under The Bus, who get to reminisce about another opening weekend of March Madness and revive a favorite pastime of ragging on the Yankees, with plenty in between.
Hall of Fame sportswriter Curry Kirkpatrick waxes poetic about The Tournament and remembers Magic vs. Bird, legendary high school hoops coach Rich Basirico rants about foul shooting, and former ESPN SportsCenter anchor Bob Stevens laments putting his trust in Bruce Pearl, plus Curry evokes punk rockers The Vandals, the fellas discuss the laundry regimen for Danny Hurley’s lucky underwear (and long for Hurley to go head to head with T.J. Otzelberger … in the Elite Eight or the octagon), and we cover the first weekend of the Madness in great details, from “Dolly Madison” failing to take down Duke to DJ Burns’ impressive girth.
The fellas pass on throwing Ohtani interpreter Ippei Mizuhara under the bus, noting he has already been made a speed bump by literally everyone else involved in the gambling scandal, but Curry pummels Purdue coach Matt Painter, Rich rips the refs, and the crew has a good laugh about the foul “Casper” committed to save Kansas from an upset against Samford.
All that and more this week on Under The Bus!

Busting on the Brackets

Thursday Mar 21, 2024

Thursday Mar 21, 2024

It's March Madness, and the Under The Bus crew breaks down their brackets in preparation for the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament, throwing plenty of coaches, players, and commentators under the bus, along with the selection committee, of course. Don't miss this episode of Under The Bus featuring Hall of Fame sportswriter Curry Kirkpatrick, former ESPN SportsCenter anchor Bob Stevens, and legendary hoops coach Rich Basirico!

Don't Smile At Me In Public

Wednesday Mar 13, 2024

Wednesday Mar 13, 2024

With another North Carolina win over Duke, Hall of Fame sportswriter Curry Kirkpatrick takes another shot at "The Rat" (aka Coach K) and his legacy, former ESPN SportsCenter anchor Bob Stevens and legendary high school hoops coach Rich Basirico hammer Tennessee women's basketball coach Kellie Harper for her end-of-game strategy (or lack thereof) against South Carolina, and diehard Giants fan Rich laments the tragedy of "Say-Gone" Barkley to the Eagles. And on the subject of NFL free agency, the gang wonders aloud how Russ and Ciara will adjust to living with yinz up Pittsburgh way and what is to become of the saga of Danny Dimes and Frankie Skillets, or whatever his name was (Tommy Cutlets). Plus, Staley vs. Mulkey, Tiny Hands Pickett, and PGA Tour players reenacting Tin Cup at Bay Hill — all that and more on this week's edition of Under The Bus!

Wednesday Mar 06, 2024

Our grumpy GOATs discuss how much The Portalists, as Curry calls them, have changed college basketball - for better and worse - and what it really means for Caitlin Clark to pass Pete Maravich’s scoring total. And of course, Curry has stories and a spot under the bus for both Pistol Pete and Ponytail Pete’s haters.Plus, the fellas rail on Rick Barnes’ postseason acumen - and the time he big-timed in front of Rich at the Final Four - as well as the NCAA for its slights against Bob and Curry when they were working journalists, LeBron and every star athlete with a martyr complex, and many more. And in the Speed Bump Round, Johnny Manziel, Russell Wilson and the Broncos, UTB favorite Mick Cronin, and every NFL GM at the combine makes a thumping sound.
